Glenn

Trainer

In Glenns own words:
I joined the club in 2004 with my daughter Emily and two Border Collies, Pip and Jake. I had trained the two dogs as working dogs on our farm where we bred lambs and calves for the market. The farm was also a 5 star getaway one hour from Melbourne. After spending ten years on the farm our return to the city required some retraining for the dogs. Both had never been on lead, had the run of a sizable farm without the need to understand the dangers of roads nor were accustomed to playing and getting along with other dogs.

Over the next 4 years Jake excelled at each level of training winning ‘best’ dog trophies at every trial he was entered for. Jake’s final claim to dog fame was succeeding in achieving ‘Diamond Dog Excellence’..only the second dog to achieve the highest level we offer at our club. Jake is now 15 years old and prefers to sit and watch the newer members of our club in training and enjoy the social friendships among our canine members. Pip, sadly passed away in 2008. She was totally deaf for most of her life but she was still able to be a valuable contributer on the farm, taking responsibility for keeping the guests occupied with ball games and as a guide to all the best spots for walking on the farm. Pip loved coming to the dog club where she made many friends and was even able to achieve some success at trials winning a few ribbons. She leaves behind fond memories. ‘Coco’ a ten month old border collie has joined our family and is now in training at our club.

In 2008 I was invited to become a trainer at our club and gladly accepted. My 30 years being involved in education and training together with my farming experiences may assist me in my training responsibilities at our great dog club. I have made many wonderful friends both two legged and four and look forward to making many more at Hobsons Bay Obedience Dog Club.
